A Song to Teach

Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8, 14-30; 32:1-47

God gave Moses a song to teach to the Israelites, to be passed down from generation to generation, to remind them of God's love and faithfulness and to caution them against turning away from him. After reciting the words of the song, Moses said to the Israelites, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you - they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess" (32:46-47).

Lord, give me a song when I need to hear your voice. Write your counsel on my mind through the lyrics of a song; soothe and strengthen my heart with the healing salve of a melody. Give me music to share with others that will speak your truth and settle your peace into their hearts. Plant your words in the hearts of my children through Christian music; bring those words into their minds when they need to hear your voice. Give them understanding and wisdom. May they believe in your faithfulness and learn to trust your heart. Teach them to walk in your ways. Sing your truth to them and let it penetrate deep into their souls.
