Walking with Jesus

Bible Reading: Joshua 1; 2; 3; 4; 5

"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (1:7-9).

Lord, thank you that, wherever I go, you're always with me. With you by my side, I don't have to be afraid. When I face difficult or uncertain times, I can lift my hand to you and we can walk through it together, hand in hand. Make me strong and courageous. As long as I let you lead the way, I can rest and trust in you. You go before me, preparing the way, and you walk with me, giving me guidance, strength and peace.

Sometimes the path ahead looks much too dark; it fills my heart with panic and dread. The road to the right or to the left looks so much more inviting. I tug on your arm and try to persuade you to change your direction. Why won't you turn down the brighter path? I dig in my heels and insist that you must be mistaken. Then you put your arms around me, gently nudge me forward, and whisper in my ear, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, will be with you" (1:9). "Don't be afraid, for you are deeply loved by me. Be at peace; take heart and be strong!" (Daniel 10:19a NLT). "Trust in me with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge me and I will direct your paths" (Pr. 3:5-6). "I will take great delight in you, I will quiet you with my love, I will rejoice over you with singing" (Zeph. 3:17).

Your words fill my mind; I meditate on them day and night. They calm my fears and give me courage to take the next step. Your way is best. Though I don't understand, I will trust your heart and walk with you wherever you lead me.
