Singin' in the Rain

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 22:6-23; 23; 24; Psalm 52; 54; 57; 63

Psalm 57, 63 – written when David was fleeing from Saul:

"Let me hide under the shadow of your wings until the trouble has passed" (57:1 NCV).

"I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.... God sends his love and his faithfulness" (57:2-3).

"My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music…. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies" (57:7,10).

"On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me" (63:6-8).

Lord, when trouble falls on me like rain, steady my heart and "let me hide under the shadow of your wings until the trouble has passed" (57:1 NCV). Hold me close and shield me from that which would destroy me. When my soul clings to you through sleepless nights, send me your love and faithfulness. As I cry out to you, remind me that you are fulfilling your purpose for me, even through this storm.

When David was in the midst of trouble, he sang and made music to you (57:7). Perhaps that is what kept his heart steady. Even in the midst of my pain, I'm always able to find strength and comfort in singing praises to you. Fill my heart with music; let the music soothe my fears as I rest safely in your arms. I'll sing in the rain while I wait for the storm to pass.
