No Strength Left to Cry

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25; 26; 27; 28:1-2; 29; 30; 1 Chronicles 12:1-7, 19-22

David and his men returned to Ziklag to find it burned and their families captured. "David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep" (1 Sam. 30:4). "David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God" (30:6).

Even when he was mourning the loss and possible death of his wives and was greatly distressed because everyone had turned against him, David found strength in God. Everyone else let their grief turn to bitterness and anger, and sought revenge. David, however, drew strength from the Lord and inquired of him what to do (30:6-8).

Lord, when I suffer emotional pain, don't let me be driven by my emotions. Don't let my distress turn to anger and bitterness. When I have no strength left to cry, let me draw strength from you. Instead of seeking revenge, give me the will to seek your face. Show me how you would have me respond. Speak to me and give me strength, wisdom and direction as I fall on my face before you.
