"Be at peace; take heart and be strong!"

Bible Reading: Daniel 10; 11; 12 - Listen

In the face of a frightful vision, Daniel fell to the ground, speechless and trembling. His strength was gone and he could hardly breathe. An angel picked him up, encouraged him, and gave him the strength to hear and understand the difficult message the angel was about to deliver.

When we find ourselves in a frightful situation … when we must face a fearful future … when we must remember a painful past … when we cry out for understanding, God speaks to us the words of the angel, "Do not be afraid. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard" (10:11). When we, like Daniel, are overcome with anguish by the images that fill our minds with fear, God's touch will lift us to our feet and give us strength as he exhorts us, "Don't be afraid, for you are deeply loved by God. Be at peace; take heart and be strong!" (10:19a NLT). As we respond, with humility, "Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength" (10:19b), his healing touch and gentle words will give us renewed strength and courage to face what lies ahead.
